Solo teen hiker hoisted from mountain cliff after using AI to plan route, North Shore Rescue says - British Columbia, Canada
This headline was shocking to me. Are people really using AI to forge their way through the mountains? Has anyone tried that? I usually rely on more dependable resources when considering a hike I haven't tried before.

People are already doing it, and North Shore Rescue just had to hoist a teen off a cliff because a generated route got treated like a plan. I have not tried that, and I would not. The nasty part is how sure the wording sounds while it skips what a dependable source actually checks: whether the trail is real, what the exposure is, what changed since the last trip report, and where you turn around. A map you can read with no signal, recent local beta, and an exit picked before the trailhead still beat a paragraph that has never stood on that ridge. #hiking
