Games crashing on PC, time for a new graphics card?

Hello!

I’m a computer noob, currently trying to troubleshoot a PC I had help building 5 years ago. I am aware that the graphics card world is kinda crazy rn.

I’ve got a Geforce 1080Ti, no idea what kind of CPU, and 16gb of ram. It was running fine until last week. I can get more specs later maybe when I am home.

What I’ve already done: turned it off and back on again several times, updated the drivers, cleared the caches in safe mode, tried redownloading the game (Where Winds Meet) from the actual website and not Steam, ran a memory test on the ram, took it apart to reseat the ram/clean the dust out/reapply thermal paste/reseat the graphics card. All I accomplished was causing the Pc to run slightly louder due to the lack of dust sound dampening. Don’t judge me, I haven’t cleaned it in 5 years. Messing with electronics scared me until the problem inconvenienced me.

I’m at replacing the graphics card stage. I’ve found a Geforce 3060 12gb for under $479 that’s NIB. The min requirements for WWM list a RTX 2070 super. Would those two be comparable? Should I look for a 2070 super? I wasn’t able to find a within budget 4070, so I’m not sure I could find a 2070. I’m not looking for anything super high powered, just working and affordable.

There’s also a gaming laptop at the store I work at I could grab for $899 minus employee discount, or I could grab a nice prebuilt PC from Costco for \~$1k. In order to keep myself from putting my problem PC in a box in a corner as a future problem, I’m looking for a solution cheaper than that.
