I’m planning a road trip through these two countries in August.
My personal preference is to travel by car, as it allows me to stop wherever I want between points of interest, change my plans at the last minute, and avoid being tied to train or flight schedules.
I’m aware that there are high-speed trains connecting the three main Silk Road cities in Uzbekistan, but I’d still like to drive those routes myself.
I’m European, but I have driving experience in North Africa. I also hold an International Driving Permit.
A few years ago, it seemed that renting a car in Kazakhstan as a foreigner was difficult, and virtually impossible in Uzbekistan.
From what I understand, it is now possible in both countries, although I can still find very few firsthand accounts. However, I have come across several well-rated rental agencies online in both countries.
I would therefore be grateful for any feedback or experiences regarding car rental and driving in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
