Tradespeople who got off the tools — what did you move…

Tradespeople who got off the tools — what did you move into, and was it worth it?

I'm interested in hearing from people who worked in a trade for a few years and eventually decided to get off the tools or change career completely.

What trade were you in, what made you decide to leave, and what do you do now?

I'm particularly interested in things like:

* How old were you when you changed career?
* How many years had you spent in your trade?
* What was the main reason you wanted out — physical wear, money, hours, travel, family life, lack of interest, workplace culture, etc.?
* What career did you move into?
* Did any of your trade skills or experience help you get there?
* Did you have a degree or did you need to go back to school/retrain?
* How long did it take to become qualified or get your first job?
* Were you able to retrain while still working?
* Did you have to take a pay cut initially?
* How does your income compare now?
* Is your work/life balance better?
* What do you miss about working in the trades?
* What DON'T you miss?
* Was getting into your new career harder than you expected?
* If you could go back, would you make the same move again?
* Did anyone leave the trades and eventually **go back**?

And probably the biggest thing I'm curious about:

**What do you wish you'd known before you decided to get off the tools?**

Not trying to bash the trades at all. I'm just interested in the realistic options available to people who've spent years building trade experience but don't necessarily want to stay on the tools forever.
