How do you sleep through your guardian dog’s constant barking?
To clarify: We did not “inherit” this ranch. We inherited money & bought this ranch. The previous owner died & left it to his kids who didn’t want it. They were having a hard time selling it because of all the animals. They asked if we would “inherit” the ranch & animals & keep it running & we jumped at the opportunity. So the animals are part of the land. We, as newcomers, want to learn how to adapt and live there without disrupting the animals’ lives. I love the dogs & love that they bark to keep the predators away. I just want to be able to sleep.
If you have a salty comment about how I shouldn’t complain, kindly keep it to yourself. Please & thank you.
We just inherited a huge ranch with 3 Great Pyrenees & a bunch of livestock. The dogs are phenomenal at their job & we feel so safe with them there. We aren’t living there full time yet but we’ve camped inside the little fixer-upper cabin a few nights. The first night the dogs didn’t bark at all (or at least I couldn’t hear them), the second night they barked so loud it felt like they were inside the cabin with us, and the third night they barked frequently but they were far off on a distant part of the property (240 hilly acres) so we hardly heard them. I’m sure it will take some time of us living there to learn their habits & patterns, but on the nights when they stay close & bark right outside the door, what can be done to help us sleep? We were thinking of getting noise cancelling sleep headbands but we want to be able to hear enough so that we can wake up if there is an emergency. Will we just get used to it? #home
