I gave my notice today and management is throwing a fit

So, here I (31F) go. It’s more a post to see if I am an idiot or unfair or whatever.

I have a university degree in translation and speak 6 languages. Started working when I was 23.

I’ve been at the company for almost 5 years. From a coordinating role I went to a sales role about 1,5 years ago. It was a horizontal move. I’ve been very good at my job

The ‘sales role’ has turned out to be more of a customer care role. Our job title says ‘Sales Advisor’, reality is that I am constantly listening to people who are mad at the accounting department, at this, at some other department… There is not a lot of sales.

In January I took over a very important and difficult to manage customer portfolio. We doubled our numbers so basically I am doing the work of 2 people. I can leave on holiday with 4 on-going cases and come back with 50. I did overtime, worked on weekends…

At the same time, the supervisor that I had liked me a lot but he was honestly shitty to my team. Example: ‘You guys are just advisors’, ‘It’s a good thing person A didn’t get the promotion otherwise you would all feel so superior’.

When I asked for a development plan to become a sales manager in a few years, he told me ‘You don’t need that for sales’, so I started one myself and asked HR. They also scheduled a development center to see my competences etc.

Over the summer, I felt more and more discouraged, work was not great, I felt stressed a lot, stressed about my cases, stressed about having to pick up the phone constantly…

At the start of this month, I got someone from the competition asking me if I wanted to apply for a Sales Manager job in their company. I went in expecting nothing, and after a few rounds got the job.

I doubted a lot cause my current employer was doing the development plan etc for me, so I told my N+2 about it. I told him: ‘Listen, I don’t want more money and I don’t want a new job in a few months or a year, I just have a few questions: 1. Why is no one from my team evolving? 2. how do you see my development ?

Immediately it went to: ‘I know people your generation are impatient to grow, but patience is key’. ‘The grass sometimes is greener on the other side but sometimes it isn’t’, ‘We have 5-6 good people on the team (while later they told me I was a top performer)’. ‘We have bad people on the team but if we fire them we have a person less so…’ ‘You had a good year, we are satisfied’ ‘we can’t stop you’

A few days passed and I had my assesment feedback which was good, but nothing about our earlier conversation. After long thoughts I realised that I had to try, so I resigned.

It is as if I dropped a bomb or set the office on fire. N+2 has been telling other management members (one of them being a very good friend which is how I know) that they are completely shocked and blindsided. That I am too ambitious and I should have waited some more years.

But the worst: they were comparing me to some guy who left us for the competition and was fired after 2 months.

On the other hand, N+2 and other managers are telling each other how f\*\*\*\*\* they are with me leaving and don’t want to tell their manager.

My question is: How do I ride this out? They will blame me for this and I will have to pretend to be kind to them for the following 2 months

Six languages and they still don't hear notice. Forget about it.
