⚖️ A Northern Ireland appeal court has overturned a temporary ban on a restricted Orange Order parade from Drumcree Church in Portadown, allowing it to use the Garvaghy Road.

The Parades Commission had limited the procession to 35 participants, required an 8:00 a.m. start and barred supporters from accompanying it. The route had been closed to the parade for 28 years.

The dispute dates to the 1990s, when repeated confrontations over the route through the mainly nationalist Garvaghy Road led to violence, major security operations and prolonged political tension.

🚓 Residents had challenged the Commission’s decision in court. The Department of Justice urged all sides to respond peacefully and warned against undermining hard-won improvements in community relations.
