Odd message from American Airlines- What was this about?
So, my SO and I were taking a flight from New York to Seville, with a 3-hour layover in Barcelona. We had boarded the plane in New York and we had a few minutes before takeoff. I received a message from American Airlines telling me that due to a delay, we would not be able to make our connection in Barcelona to Seville and that, sorry, there were no other flights to rebook us on and we should seek alternative transport when we arrived in Barcelona. It was especially odd because our flight from NY was leaving on time, and with a 3-hour layover there shouldn't be any issues with making our connection.
Obviously I was alarmed, and called the AA customer service number thinking there was no way I'd get through before we took off, but miraculously someone answered. She said she had no idea why I would get this email, since everything looked fine on her end and she asked her supervisor who said the same thing. But of course I was a nervous wreck for the entire transatlantic flight because we really had to make it to Seville that day. Once we got to Barcelona, the flight to Seville was actually delayed, we were still ticketed, and we got there fine.
I'm totally perplexed as to how this happened. This was definitely a legitimate communication from AA and not a scam. Has this happened to anyone? #travel source
