16,700 mile / 7 month road trip my wife and I went on last year
My wife and I took a big road trip last year (2025) in our Prius, starting and ending in Arizona.
Yellow dots: multi-night Airbnb stays
Purple dots: one-night stays
Blue dots: notable short stops
Green dots: camping
Favorite stops:
\- Northern California
\- Upper Peninsula Michigan
\- Chicago
\- West Virginia
\- South Dakota (wife disagrees, lol)
Least favorite stop:
\- Houston TX
We prioritized driving on non-interstate roads, so lots of beautiful stretches.
Interesting learning: mpg varied a lot by where we drove. Arizona was the highest (55 mpg), Northern California was the lowest (45 mpg). Probably due to humidity and temperature.
We were working remotely through this, so it wasn’t a true vacation, but we got to explore a lot after work each day. I’m hoping we can do something like this again when I retire in 20-30 years.
