I need to attach this handle to the board and I’m trying to do what will make this handle stronger or at least not weaken it. I know the grain is weak at the curved part - I snapped the first one I made at that point with an unwise chisel strike. The end grain is shaded on the left side, I believe the edge grain is in contact with the board.
Would a dowel through the board up into the handle provide more/less/the same resistance to cracking? I figure my other option is pre drill and screw but to me that seems like I could easily weaken the handle. This is a gift and I really would like it to not snap when the recipient is carrying a tray of food. #diy source
