1. Who is he & where is he from?
Jan Koum was born February 24, 1976 in Kiev, Ukraine (then Soviet Union). He emigrated to the U.S. in 1992, settling in Mountain View, California, with his mother and grandmother. They struggled on welfare in a small apartment, and Jan worked as a grocery store cleaner to help support them
2. What was he doing before getting rich???
Before founding WhatsApp, Jan Koum took these key steps:
1. Cleaner & grocery bagger Did manual work to help his family .
2. Self-taught programmer Learned coding on a free public broadband connection at home.
3. Worked at Yahoo Joined as an infrastructure engineer in 1997, gaining crucial experience and meeting co-founder Brian Acton.
