The interviewer asked about my family plans during the final round and i am not sure how to feel
I just finished the third and final stage of an interview process for a senior coordinator role at a mid sized firm . Everything was going smoothly until the hiring manager leaned back and asked if i have any major life changes planned for the next year or two like a wedding or starting a family . I honestly froze for a second because it felt so inappropriate and outdated to even bring that up in a professional setting . I tried to keep it light and said i am focused on my career growth right now but he kept pushing and mentioned how they need someone who is going to be consistent and not taking long breaks anytime soon .
It felt like such a massive red flag because it is clearly a workaround to ask if i am planning on getting pregnant without actually saying the words . I have been job hunting for four months and i really liked the team and the actual work but this interaction has left such a bad taste in my mouth . I am wondering if i should bring this up to the hr department or if that would just result in them pulling the offer since i am not even an employee yet . Is this still a common thing people deal with or did i just stumble into a toxic department . I really need the job but i also dont want to work for someone who views my personal life as a potential liability before i even start .
I am torn between just ignoring it and taking the paycheck or saying something and potentially losing the opportunity . It is 2026 and i cannot believe we are still having these conversations in final interviews . Has anyone else experienced this and did you end up taking the job or did the culture turn out to be as bad as the interview suggested . I would love some advice on how to handle this if they actually send over the contract tomorrow because i feel like i am already being judged for things that havent even happened . #business source
