I’m freaking out…I received an offer for a company shorty after I started a part time role and they called my direct supervisors basically informing them that I will be leaving. Can companies do this?
Okay so to better explain the title - I stared for at a credit union part time about 1 month ago. 2 weeks in I was asked by the CU if I would be open to full time as they have an opening. I said yes because, honestly I would have been able to stay in a part time role for very long at the pay I was offered ( just to note before accepting the offer they did not disclose the pay in the initial offer).
I agreed to the full time as I was already working additional hours. That same week I received an offer from a commercial bank which I almost rejected outright, but past experience had thought me not to do that. Their offer was contingent on passing their background check and to me it seems intense. They had set my start date to be this upcoming Monday. I however did not say thing to my current employer as I know that offer is not a hard offer as yet. But I went ahead with providing the necessary information needed for the background check.
The following week I was then told my the current employer that I wouldn’t be getting the FT position because if they remove me from the PT position they would need to look for a PT. Mind you they still have to look for a FT. So i figured they would just be jerking me around so I made the right call.
The next day when I got in, I found out that the other company called the branch for employment verification. I know they have to call your employer but I didn’t think they would call my branch. They called my AM, SVP, and manager. They basically let my employer know that I would be leaving them and pushed a conversation that I wasn’t ready to have as yet.
I actually wanted to leverage the offer to get a FT position where I am rather than switching companies even if it was less pay.
But my current company process is insane. The supervisors basically told the entire team that I will be leaving. I didn’t even tell them that I was or when. They just assumed. I didn’t say anything because the offer I got still isn’t a guarantee. People kept coming up to me and saying “you’re leaving right?”. I responded I don’t know.
Then I was forced to talk more about the offer and I told them they the other company had initially set my start date to coming Monday but it’s not confirmed and I don’t think it’s fair if they do not give me a 2 week advance notice.
Basically at this point I’m feeling pushed out. When I was there at work yesterday they had potential interview for FT that were no shows. So to touch on my role and experience, I have 6 years of experience in the role, I’m currently working their line with no formal training from them because I already knew the system. So giving me the FT position would be a no brainer.
Today I tried to confirm my schedule for next week and they said to me that Friday is your last day so bring your notice. Because I need to hand it a formal written resignation. However, I did not tell them that Friday will be my last day. I did not say 100% I was leaving. I’m super confused and unsure what to do at this point.
It all started because this other company outed me to my current employer that I got an offer and now I don’t know. I’m so worried that I might lose this PT job because of it, and this other company won’t go through with their offer.
I also work a less paid PT role but the scheduling has been back and forth with the CU that I had to keep changing my schedule for the other Pt positions and I’m afraid of losing that too. What do I do here. I was unemployed for 10 months and finally got interviews and landed something and it feels like it’s being taken away from me just because I need to look out for my own finance.
This was a long post and thank to those who read all of it. This is probably more of a vent but also what should I do post? #business source
