Today South Africans celebrate National Heritage Day designated annually on September 24th,
originally established as a Public Holiday to honor the valued traditions, languages and cultures that make up our SA national identity.
In 2007 the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu became the official patron of National Braai Day . He endorsed the idea of using the braai as a unifying symbol and since then we have embraced both National Heritage Day and National Braai Day!
Sunshine, braai and Rugby reflects our country’s love for sunny weather, the tradition of braai and its passionate following of rugby.
Our Braai season has officially started!

Family, friends and a braai off course😜we call it a "bring and braai" Everyone bring their own meat and drinks. We always have a designated person to braai (barbeque) the meat. Don't forget the music 😂
Sounds wonderful! In the USA, "pot luck" is the equivalent, though the organizers will ask attendees what they wish to bring and coordinate, accordingly.

I have some stories too🤣🤣Thus the reason 'bring your own'' It also depends on the occasion and the attendees. With a family lunch we normally provide the main meal and drinks, then coordinate the salads, snacks and desserts.
Likewise... the American side of my family has pot luck gatherings for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The host provides the turkey (Thanksgiving) and ham (Christmas) and most of the main meal items. Guests bring interesting items ranging from homemade to store-bought products. 😬🤣😜😱
