hHow did scientist figure out the proportional composition of the sun?
They used spectroscopy to work out the composition of elements in the photosphere from the absorption lines, but how did they figure out in what ratios? How are we able to say that the photosphere is 73.46% ydrogen, 0.07% silicon, etc.
