So I work as a foreman running an asphalt maintenance crew. I’ve been here 3 years and we work heavy all 3 - 4 months of summer. I work 12 - 20 hour shift pretty much every day (average is 18 a day) for those months back to back other than if it rains or a week off for Fourth of July. Also we work weekends at the same length. I literally have no time to recharge and get burnt out by the time summer ends and don’t get to get outside and enjoy things until winter when I have loads of money but nothing to do. I make 31 an hour and get lots of ot as you can tell and can make 50k in these months but… Is this really sustainable. I’m 23 I’m one of those rare people who runs off a few hours of sleep but this last year burnt me out really bad with an extra month long summer. Is this really sustainable and what are your similar experiences? Is this normal or would you do this? My boss wants to put me on closer to 100k salary next season. But after 3 years I realize I’ve stuck my head down and put up with it for too long. #industry source
