A Bosnian friend recently asked if I could build him a traditional Bosnian rocking cradle (bassinet). He did his best to describe it to me, but I’m struggling to nail down the exact dimensions, proportions, and joinery details from descriptions alone.
He showed me a photo from 30-40 years ago, but the baby was the focus, making it hard to see any useful structural details for the cradle itself. From what I did gather, it's essentially a tapered box sitting on rocking rails.
Being that it's 2026, I doubt the kiddo will spend much, if any, time in this—it's more of a keepsake. Still, I want to build it safely and with proportions true to what people used decades ago.
It's a bit of a long shot, but does anyone here have experience building one, or happen to have access to some reference photos or measurements? Any plans, rough sketches, or pointers would be hugely appreciated! #diy
