sometimes i notice people think art is unserious or easy, so when they can't do it they feel like they're bad at it, because in their minds anyone should be able to.
i'll use the example of drawing because it's the one i get most often. i draw a lot at school, so sometimes people see it, compliment it and always say something like "i couldn't do that" with a sad or dissapointed tone, or something like "i don't know how you do it, i could never"
i of course always thank them, but i do notice that they never understand i can only do it because i've been drawing for years. it's normal they can't do it, there's nothing wrong about it and if they tried they could get better too. of course you can have some natural talent but there's some thing you can only archieve by having some sort of consistency.
there's a lot of stuff other people do that im not able to, simply because it requires practice, and i understand this.
idk i see stuff like this happens with a lot of other subjects, but i primarily notice it with art. playing an instrument feels the same, if i lend my bass to someone they're suddenly surprised they can't play like me, wich is normal, because they don't play and i do...
im always thankful for anyone that finds what i do nice, there's nothing that makes me happier, but i do understand sometimes it comes from not having enough respect for the activity. i hope someday we can all understand that the things other people do are as complex as the ones we do, and that we shouldn't assume so confidently just because we see the easy part of it.
hope this made sense lol kinda hard to explain, english isn't my first language either so im sorry if it's messy😅🙏 #conversation source
