I made a giant stone-washed ceramic dice set — after 10+ years working with ceramics, this is one of my favorite finishes so far
I’ve been working with ceramics for over a decade, and over time I’ve gravitated toward finishes that feel less “perfect” and more natural.
This set is a larger-format handmade ceramic dice set, finished with a **stone-wash technique** I’ve been refining to give it a more worn, almost aged look.
Even with experience, this process pushed things a bit:
* managing shrinkage while keeping the geometry consistent across the set * preserving edge definition so the numbers stay clean and readable * introducing surface variation without it looking uncontrolled
The stone-washing stage ended up being where most of the character comes from—each die reacts a little differently, which is exactly what I was hoping for.
After a lot of iterations, this is one of the first batches where the balance between precision and texture really feels right to me. #diy source
