Has anyone made or used the kind of thing that allow you to open a window to get air (lots) but keep outdoor noise minimal?
Not the usual acoustically insulated vent on market - which requires serious depth and doesn't fit window openings.
My window opening is about 10x50 inch and 1.6 deep. The rest of the windows are insulated, but not the opening if I open it.
The only idea I got for now is to build a very slim baffle box, basically a labyrinth for air to go through a long path (roughtly 4in wide, 1.5 deep) between a hole on the outer pane and a hole on the inner pane, made of PC, with some absorbing material alongside the path to reduce reflections. This place maintains negative pressure so such openings act as intake exclusively. The whole box would be inserted to the window opening (match the size and sealed), and then the window door itself can be removed.
Does it make sense? Anyone has experience on this? I have no idea how much sound reduction can be expected. #home source
