Feeling really inadequate in the new age of design x Ai

I’ve been really struggling to keep up with using Ai in my workflows (as a UI system designer) and I feel like I’m forming into a person who has a limited skill set. I’ve been a designer for 15+ years and I’m trying my best to keep up with the pace with everyone else.

Most part of my job is to technically teach, feed and maintain our design system with Ai (Claude, Cursor, and ChatGPT) to give our designers the ideal output for their prototypes. On top of this, I continue to build the components in case designers choose to iterate in Figma. Craft is really important to me.

I’m doing my best to learn after hours to make sure I’m understanding their needs, understand the code and its structure and how to design in Ai faster. By the time I do catch up, a new model releases and I’m back at the starting line.

I feel like I’m constantly miles behind to keep up with our designers and it’s really impacting my self worth. I’m mentally and physically burnt out and waiting for a meeting with my manager telling me that I’m no longer needed. I feel dumb, slow and the boomer grandma who can’t use a smartphone (I’m a millennial).

I’m not asking for pity or Ai skill advice. Just simply venting and I hope I’m not the only one. Don’t get me wrong, Ai has been great in some ways, but it’s made this new workflow and pace into a never ending marathon.
