I'm exploring mycelium as a sustainable material for one of my design projects and would love to learn from people who have hands-on experience.
I have a few questions:
How do you grow mycelium from scratch?
Which mushroom species or spawn works best for making design materials?
What substrate do you use, and how do you sterilize it?
What environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, light, etc.) are ideal for healthy growth?
How long does the entire process take?
How do you stop the growth and dry the material once it reaches the desired shape?
Are there any common mistakes that beginners should avoid?
If you've worked with mycelium for product design, furniture, packaging, or biomaterials, I'd really appreciate any advice, resources, or tips you can share. Thanks in advance
