How do I navigate conversation in social events when I…

How do I navigate conversation in social events when I have nothing going for me?

Hello, I’ve just been told that my parents, my sister and I have been invited to a wedding this November, and I’m feeling nervous about it.

I’m 21 years old, not in college because I have no idea what I want to do, recently quit my overnight job because of the strain it was putting on me, don’t have any interesting hobbies, don’t have friends to go out with and have absolutely nothing to talk about regarding myself.

Whenever I have to talk to someone I’m always asked if I’m in school, what I’m “up to” or what my plans are, and I just have to awkwardly say no I’m not in school, I’m not really doing anything and I don’t know what I want to do with my life. To which they respond “that’s okay you’re young you’ll figure it out”. I’ve been having this same interaction for three years now and it’s incredibly embarrassing and depressing every time. It just reminds me how behind I feel.

It’s unlikely I’ll figure out what I want to do with my life in two months, so what can I do when people come up to me and ask about me?
