Death Valley or Alternative Route Hi everyone, I'm…

Death Valley or Alternative Route

Hi everyone,
I'm especially looking for advice from those with experience in the area or who have done a similar trip.
In August, with one night available to break up the journey, I need to travel from Mammoth Lakes to Las Vegas. I'm undecided between two options with my rental car.
1Drive through Bishop and Lone Pine (with a stop at Manzanar), enter Death Valley around 6:00 PM, and continue to Stovepipe wells or Furnace Creek (which one is better?), where I would stay overnight. The following morning, I would do a brief visit of the park at sunrise (no hiking) and then head toward Las Vegas (possibly stopping at Valley of Fire along the way).
2Drive from Mammoth Lakes to Big Pine, bypass Death Valley, and continue to Beatty (possibly with a short visit to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest), staying overnight in Beatty. The next morning, I could make a brief sunrise visit to some Death Valley attractions (either instead of or in addition to Valley of Fire) before continuing to Las Vegas.
For the first itinerary (which is undoubtedly the more scenic one), I'm concerned about the temperatures and potential issues for the rental car (a suv with Avis) due to the extreme heat. For the second option, my concern is that the stretch between Big Pine and Beatty seems very isolated and still crosses desert areas, even if temperatures are somewhat milder than in Death Valley.
I should also mention that I would be traveling with my parents, who are both in their early 60s, and I'd like the trip to go as smoothly as possible,.
We are from Italy and unfortunately we can’t travel in different months
Of course, if you have better suggestions, I'm open to alternative itineraries as well.
Thanks in advance!
