📈 The S&P 500 rose 1.8% on Tuesday, August 4, to a record close of 7,736.52. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq composite also climbed to or near records.
The advance followed stronger corporate results, including gains for Palantir and Caterpillar. Shares of Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron were also among the forces lifting the index.
🛢️ Brent crude fell 5.3% to $79.36 a barrel, easing pressure on Treasury yields and concerns about borrowing costs. The 10-year Treasury yield fell to 4.62% from 4.70% on Monday.
The rally came as reported S&P 500 earnings growth remained unusually strong, though Axios noted that large unrealized gains reported by Amazon and Alphabet affected the aggregate figure. Investors will continue to assess company earnings, oil prices and bond yields.
