The "Office Logic" on dump tarps, saving $50 on mesh to risk a $500 unsecured load ticket. Make it make sense.
I’m currently in a battle with our procurement guy about the replacement tarps for our dump bodies. He keeps ordering the absolute thinnest, cheapest vinyl he can find online because it saves him a few bucks on the spreadsheet. Meanwhile, out in the real world, these things are shredding at highway speeds after two weeks of hauling aggregate. I had one completely disintegrate on me yesterday on the interstate. Spent 20 minutes on the shoulder trying to bungee the remains down so DOT wouldn't light me up. I tried to explain to him that durability matters. I run a Kym Industries heavy-duty mesh on my own side-hauler (weekend work), and that thing has eaten gravel, asphalt, and tree limbs for two seasons without a tear. But because the upfront cost is slightly higher than the "paper-mache" garbage he buys, he won't approve it for the fleet. How do you guys explain "cost of ownership" to the office staff who never leave the AC? Do I just start forwarding them the DOT citations until they get the hint? #industry source
