How can I become more inquisitive in conversations?
I read a lot of advice that, to be better in conversation, you should be curious and ask questions about the other person.
I'm not very inquisitive (maybe because as a kid, I always got in trouble for being nosey?).
Asking questions about others also wasn't really the way we communicated in my house when I was growing up.
I missed a lot of social milestones because my mother was solitary and I didn't go to highschool.
I'm struggling to deepen my friendships with others even though I get along with them well, because I feel like I don't have much to say, and I struggle to think of things to ask. I usually end up talking "at" people, expecting them to branch off a subject, but if that's not someone's style of conversation we end up with really awkward silence.
I consider myself a good listener and I love listening to others, but I don't have much to say in response that actually proves I'm listening.
I'm also living in an area where it's not so common to just go strike up a chat with random people (Minneapolis, MN) which makes practicing tougher!
