WestJet is terrible
Is it just me, or has WestJet taken an absolute NOSEDIVE in recent years in terms of both customer service, and flight delay/disruptions/cancellations?
I used to love flying WestJet around 2010-2016, but its gotten progressively worse every year. I live in Edmonton and its absolutely terrible that its basically one of the only option for flights, especially to certain places. Somewhat regularly my family goes to Phoenix and its the only direct flight from Edmonton. Air Canada doesn’t fly there from here so its multiple flights if you wanted to fly with them, same for going to Vancouver island to visit family (no direct flights with AC from EDM).
In the last couple years of west jet flights to Phoenix or BC, I have had:
\- (this is all one trip to Phoenix) Denied boarding after being at the airport more than 1 hr before cut off, due to having ONE check in agent, and somehow taking 1 hour to check in 3 parties ahead of us. (literally by missed by 5 mins when they finally took us as the 2nd agent left for a break once we were next in line) The check in agent that denied us boarding for a 7 am flight while we were there with littles was (respectfully) an absolute cow and told us we needed to fully pay for rebooking flights. We spoke with a supervisor, was rebooked for $400 dollars in change fees on a flight to Saskatoon. We had an 8 HOUR layover with a baby and toddler. We ran out of food and diapers, then the flight to phoenix was delayed 45 minutes due to mechanical troubles, delayed on the tarmac for 30 minutes because they ran out of deicing agent in the trucks, THEN the flight attendants were (respectfully) cows to my wife by yelling at her to sit down in the air while trying to bounce with a screaming baby just after the belt sign came on, THEN delayed 45 minutes after we landed because they had no ground crew. We lost basically an entire day of a 4 day trip
On our way back, we had a connecting flight in Vancouver. We made our flight to Vancouver fine, but litterally as we were landing we saw on our phone that our connecting flight home was cancelled, no reason. Then no flight until the following day. They put us in a hotel and gave us vouchers, which was fine. But that was single handedly the worst travel experience I ever had and it was so comically terrible you couldn’t have made it up.
\- other times include major delays, other cancelled flights, etc.
9 times out of 10 I have an issue and its terrible that Canada has no other option but them or Air Canada. honestly, its absolutely awful. Why do we have to be stuck with NO other multiple decent options like USA or Europe? I just flew KLM and it was so amazing, but at the same time makes me so angry to be stuck with the hot garbage that is WJ and AC
Anyone else have similar issues?
