Bringing my private laptop to work so I can use it on my break?
I've been contemplating trying this out to get a bit more work-life balance.
On most of the jobs I've been at, I spent my break just browsing around on my phone or essentially twiddling my thumbs. It was a completely wasted amount of time since I couldn't really do what I wanted to do.
So I bought a laptop today (I have a desktop I usually use for gaming etc.) for the express purpose of taking it to work with me. I have a 1 hour break that always feels really long and wasted so I hope having a laptop will give me something to look forward to and then recharge my motivation for the last 3 hours of work. Most of my hobbies are bound to my PC so the laptop can provide me with almost all the things I'd do when I'm home as well to have fun and relax, whether that be writing, worldbuilding, browsing, watching a movie or light gaming. I'm hoping it will alleviate the feeling that I'm wasting an entire hour mid-work for nothing.
I'm curious who else has tried this before? How did it go? Did your colleagues say anything?
Obviously I'd move to a quiet corner where I don't bother anyone, and the laptop will be muted (or I bring headphones.) But I also recognize it's a bit unorthodox to bring a laptop as entertainment for break. #business source
