Shatili to Juta - complete failure
This route is in Georgian Caucasian mountains.
I tried this route alone, with no experience of solo backpacking, nor real backpacking in the wild.
I had to give up this hike because of the giant hogweeds, which seemed 2.5\~3m height in this trail. The route to the point i had to go back down was also quite surprising for me, because there was no paved or clean road at all, just a faint trace of bent plants and plants average 1.5m along the trail, keep tangling my feet and legs, with occasional thorny plants. And i didnt know because where im from the roads are almost all well organized, that it takes up way more energy from u when u have to go through such dense, tall plants and u cant see the floor properly because of the leaves. I couldnt take a proper rest also, because there was almost no shade. And then i came to the point where i had to cross a stream, 100m elevation before the final point for the first night pitching a tent. And what i didnt know was along the water there is a FOREST of giant hogweeds. My gps was kinda keep moving on its own, no visible possible routes, so i decided that i had to do some serious bushwacking and try to get out of there. So i tried to navigate myself for a while, and i couldnt, with no fucking shade. Sat down by the stream, contemplated for about an hour, kinda scared because im all alone(i saw nobody during the trek) and its my first time, gave one last try, failed again, then went back down, which almost took 3-4 hours back to shatili because of the dense plants and way too heavy backpack.
I should train more, make my backpack lighter, have a company or bring a machete. (The hosts from my guesthouse said they usually bring a machete)
Damn i didnt know a single thing about that trek being covered with such dense high plants. For me it was harder than climbing rocky ridges, maybe also because of my backpack which contained 5 days of food besides my camping gear.
Im not gonna stop until i finish this route.
