"Background" music makes most talk-focused videos unwatchable these days
And it drives me nuts. 50% are just horrible editing, even on major productions, that make the music way too loud to where it's almost the same volume as the speech. Or very complex, very intrusive music that commands a lot of your attention (whether you want it or not).
But even when they do get the volume right. It's just... WHY?
Imagine sitting in a lecture hall, your professor is explaining a difficult or information-dense subject, and there is a speaker blasting slop music over his voice. Now your brain has to work twice (or exponentially) as hard to filter the important information from the noise/music. And it just makes for a miserable experience where you learn less than you could in ideal circumstances.
Why do people choose this presentation style of their own volition? Why is this so abundant in Youtube and even Netflix productions and even other documentaries?
When I do find the one rare video that doesn't use background music, because apparently just normal human talk is too boring these days, invariably all the comments will say "this was great but uhm..how about aDdInG sOmE mUsIc???" How about no? #conversation
