I travel a lot for work and personal projects, usually bouncing all over Asia. After years of nonstop trips, here are the places that keep pulling me back for food, nature, culture, wildlife, photography and real adventure that isn’t packaged or tourist-clogged.

My top countries in Asia for this kind of travel are **Indonesia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam**. All different, all incredible in their own way.
# Nature, Wildlife and Off-Grid Spots
# Indonesia
Still the king for raw nature and photography. Volcano sunrises, remote beaches, unreal night skies and stretches of jungle that feel untouched. Once you get off Java and Bali, the vibe changes completely. Wildlife is still truly wild here, including rare species you won’t see anywhere else.
# Thailand (real Thailand, not the tourist version)
Skip Chiang Mai. If you want the real magic, go **Chiang Rai**.
The mountains around it feel untouched, the villages are calm and the morning fog looks like a painting. Also, the temples in Thailand are next level. A few that hit hard:

Slow, relaxed, quiet and honestly one of the most underrated countries in Asia. Great river towns, mountain viewpoints and trekking that feels like you stepped decades back in time. Amazing for photography and anyone who hates crowds.
# Vietnam
One of the most varied and beautiful countries I’ve ever been to.
If you like road trips, the **Ha Giang Loop** (North Vietnam motorbike circuit) is beyond epic. You can do it on a motorbike or SUV if you’re not into riding. Massive cliffs, deep valleys, tiny villages and scenery that doesn’t look real. Also some of the best food on the planet.
And if you’re into landscapes: rice terraces in Mu Cang Chai, waterfalls in Cao Bang, and foggy mountain passes everywhere.
# Urban Section: Cities That Hit Hard
# China
China’s cities are insane in the best way.
**Shanghai** feels like the future, **Shenzhen** moves at warp speed, and **Chengdu** is this perfect blend of chill, neon and incredible food. Even smaller cities feel bigger and more alive than most major capitals. Amazing for night photography.
# Japan
Tokyo is a full sensory explosion. Each neighborhood feels like its own little universe. Osaka is pure food heaven. Kyoto is peaceful and beautiful even if you avoid the main temples. Japan nails the balance of old, new and unbelievably clean.
# South Korea
Seoul runs at full throttle. Creative, fun, loud, fast. River parks, nightlife, side streets full of food at all hours. Insane energy and extremely easy to navigate.
# Bangkok
A chaotic masterpiece, but the gem is **Chinatown**.
Neon, food stalls, hidden side alleys, smells, sounds, crowds, steam and lights everywhere. One of the best night photography spots in Asia.
