A quasi-famous person (in some circles) posted a photo of this sign, along with a 2nd photo with hand gestures that I won't share here, attributed them to Trump, and said it was proof that he was a "nazi", and suggesting that under this administration, the only place to legally protest, or express opinions that run counter to Trump's worldview, was in the middle of the forest.
The truth?
This claim is MISLEADING (or FALSE regarding its attribution).
While the sign shown in the photo is a real, official National Park Service (NPS) sign located at Muir Woods National Monument, it was not instituted by the Trump administration.
Key Facts:
Federal Law Requirement: Under federal regulations (36 CFR § 2.51 and § 2.52), all NPS properties across the United States—including Muir Woods, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and the National Mall—are legally required to set aside designated "First Amendment Areas."
