Not looking for medical advice.
I’ve been hiking for over 10 years and love it. The past 2 years I have experienced leg and hip cramps mostly on descents.
Background info: I’m a 52 year old female, in the best shape of my life…outside of crappy knees and hips I guess! I use electrolytes on all of my hikes and stay hydrated. I use trekking poles. I strength train 4 days a week, hike on weekends. I have incorporated mobility exercises in my gym workouts. I have an Ortho referral and will be making an appointment.
I feel like I’ll have to stop doing hard/strenuous hikes. I live in southeastern USA, no true peaks however enough elevation and terrain changes.
**Has anyone ever dealt with having to change their hiking style/mechanics? If so, was it more of a mental shift (outside of medical care)?**
My hiking circles have been become quite competitive and performative, which I truly dislike and I’m making some changes. I solo hike more now and have recently become a trail ambassador at a local national park.
Of course, I know that this is more of an ego thing but hearing the thoughts of internet strangers may give me insight. TIA. #hiking #activity source
