Whats the difference between being nice and being a try-hard?
I was recently given the feedback that I am nice but a try-hard to other staff at my work, I am a manager.
I am generally pretty nice to people, especially people I like, and I like the people I work with.
I often compliment people, but i only do it when I see something worth complimenting, I think this might rub people the wrong way? Its not just that though. I will admit sometimes I go the extra mile for people when I feel like it, but i never expected my behavior would be coming across as a try-hard, I just thought i was being nice. I'm confused where I'm going wrong with my behavior, I've not been anything but genuine but I guess it's not coming across that way?
I am a "recovering people pleaser" and I'm aware that this is something I still struggle with, but i thought i was doing a lot better than I apparently am.
Can you help me define the difference between being nice and being a "try-hard"? #relationships source
