To prolong the life of the netting we don’t cover bushes till berries start to ripe and immediately take nets down after berries are picked at the end of the season . The row is 120 feet long with 24 bushes consisting of 6 varieties to spread out the season. Our first attempt at netting was a disaster, the cheap netting caught and killed numerous small birds including hummingbirds. We purchased vineyard netting ( very pricey ) and have never had a problem again catching birds. We’ve used these nets for almost 10 years and they’re still in good shape. The brand is Avigard. We freeze berries after allowing them to ripen at room temperature for 24 hours. After careful sorting we bag them in Ziplock bags dry to prevent them from freezing into blocks . Our biggest fear is the bears which have damaged the netting but fortunately it’s only happened once. Each spring we prune the bushes removing about 15% of the older branches. This encourages new growth and invigorates the bushes. As with all our crops we never spray them, all organic. Lots of work but very rewarding. Vermont Zone 5B #home
