Is the era of heavy welding rigs finally over for DIYers?
I’ve always hated dragging a 40lb transformer box across the garage just to fix a loose gate hinge or a lawnmower deck. It’s a 2-minute job that takes 20 minutes to set up.
I recently tried one of these handheld 120A IGBT "welding guns" that looks more like a cordless drill than a welder. I was ready to call it a gimmick, but it actually laid down some decent beads on 1/8" steel. It’s light enough to toss in a toolbox and plugs into a standard outlet.
Has anyone else made the switch to these portable units, or are we sticking to the old-school heavy rigs for "real" work? #home
