I'm looking for an idea for a gift trip for my young brother who has dreamed of going to New York for a long time. At the moment, NYC is a bit out of budget and, more importantly, he doesn't have a passport, so we're looking for a European city that can be visited with just an ID card. We are from Italy.
The idea would be to find a city with a nice modern skyline, ideally with several skyscrapers, that could somewhat recreate the feeling of a big American city. It would be even better if we could find an apartment on a high floor of a skyscraper, or at least somewhere with a great view of the skyline.
For now, I'm mainly considering:
* Warsaw * Frankfurt
I was also considering London, but since a passport is required, I think I'd probably rule it out. So within Europe, Warsaw and Frankfurt are probably the two main options at the moment. I'd also be interested in places that might not immediately come to mind, so feel free to suggest anything!
The trip would most likely be in January or February. I'd really love to see some snow as well (probably more doable in Warsaw than Frankfurt), since I think it would make the experience even more special, but I know that snow in cities is unpredictable, so it's definitely not a requirement. What European city would you recommend for this kind of trip? Especially considering the combination of a good skyline + winter atmosphere + the possibility of finding an apartment with a great view? #travel source
