Are jobs that don't ask for a portfolio fake/not serious?
I was browsing some local "designer" jobs on LinkedIn and I noticed that a bunch of these jobs didn't have a space to link or upload a portfolio.
Some of the "responsibilities" included:
*- 3 to 5 years design experience a must*
*- math skills*
*- restocking office supplies (including coffee)*
*- ordering office supplies from manufacturers*
*- assist management with mysterious tasks*
*- Microsoft Word experience a plus*
*- Unspecified random CAD experience a bonus, but not required*
*- follow our "vision"*
*- etc.*
Are these actual designer jobs or are they just using the "designer" title? Or is this a case of the hiring manager not knowing what design even is? At serious companies, there usually should be a place to link/upload your portfolio. It would be suspicious that a company would hire a designer (any type of designer) without even seeing the portfolio.
I guess they might E-mail you "Show me your portfolio", but if it was that important to them, it should've been on the application page.
An idea is that these jobs might also be "data farms". An agency made up these jobs to collect and sell people's data. I previously applied to a few of these jobs, and never got accepted to any of them. I got 2 "Sorry, you do not fulfill our requirements" E-mails, and I was like "I'm more than qualified to do your dumb list of tasks".
