As a non-numismatist and a newcomer to this country, we have been utilizing our coins to purchase bus tickets, but I was pleased to discover that these dime coins still held value.
This image shows a 1964 Canadian 10-cent coin or a dime. Made up of 80% silver, 20% copper. Weighing 2.33 grams with diameter of 18.03 mm. Possible value is $1.2 - $1.6 CAD depending on the coin condition. Shiny collector coin is about $6 - $8 CAD.
The reverse features the famous Bluenose fishing schooner, a legendary racing and fishing schooner from Nova Scotia, designed by Emanuel Hahn. It became a symbol of Canadian maritime heritage and pride. On the obverse side is the former queen, Queen Elizabeth II , designed by Mary Gillick.
The 1964 dime was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint. It was among the last few years of Canadian dimes made with high silver content, because by 1968 Canada switched to nickel dimes due to rising silver prices.
