Which career to choose: product design engineering or fashion design?
I am a Mexican student who wants to study abroad with a scholarship, but I am uncertain whether to pursue my passions or choose a more practical career. I’m interested in fashion design, but I know that the field of work is competitive and not always well paid. He had also considered industrial design for its best field of work, but as he researches further, it also seems to face challenges like precariousness and the threat of AI. I thought about studying Product Engineering because, according to my research, it is better paid and offers more stability. However, when looking for universities like Pratt or ArtCenter College of Design, I noticed that the careers offered are more related to industrial design than to engineering as such (I know that there are others like the University of Cincinnati, Rhode Island School of Design, disappointing if I fail to research this information )
I don’t want to "starve," but I want to study design. My teacher advised me to take an extended course: start with Product Engineering at a prestigious university, then do a textile design course and finally study fashion design (I have researched some good ones like Bunka Fashion College or Central Saint Martins). According to what I have researched, the world of fashion requires leaving a prestigious school, but the costs are high and, without scholarship, it would be impossible to afford. What is the employment landscape outside of the US, especially after Trump? Does anyone know about differences in job opportunities depending on the region? I would really appreciate your advice! Thank you, have a great day. #art source
