How to actually play music?
Hi everyone! So lately, I’ve been wondering, how do you \*actually\* play music? Whether it’s in a performance or not. My two teachers have said that you should play from the sheet music + memory, but I’m really confused how to do that, and I’d like help please ( thanks so much! ).
When I’m learning a piece personally, I just search up a YouTube tutorial, and play it until I remember it, no sheet music at all. However when I start off learning a piece my teacher gives me, I just label the notes before playing, because I can’t sight read, then listen to the song, and play what I’ve labelled down. I do happen to remember everything I labelled for some reason, I think I just have a good memory, so I’m not really playing according to the sheet music by that logic, since I’m playing from memory of what I’ve written. I was wondering, how do I fix this issue? Am I doing something massively incorrect here?
( Also thanks so much to everyone who replied to my previous question about stage fright, it helped me quite a bit, and I got it over with fine! Though my hands were a bit shaky. )
