🏉 The Newcastle Knights beat the Penrith Panthers 22–14 in the NRL preliminary final at Accor Stadium, sending Newcastle to its first grand final in 25 years.

Newcastle trailed 14–6 at half-time and played the second half with 12 men after hooker Phoenix Crossland was sent off for a hip-drop tackle on Nathan Cleary.

Cleary suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his ankle in the incident. Sandon Smith later scored twice, including a late intercept try, to secure the win.

The Knights will face the Sydney Roosters in next Sunday’s grand final. The result ends the minor-premier Panthers’ season. 🏆
