How I learn something quickly

Was asked yesterday to learn Grieg's op. 62 no. 6 for a funeral on Friday.

Yesterday I spent 20-30 minutes getting the technical parts securely under my fingers at half tempo. Today I continued that work for another 20 minutes, working it closer to 70% tempo. Something nice about many of the Lyric Pieces is the ABA form, which cuts down on learning time. As I increase tempo, I also start removing pedal to make sure I'm playing cleanly.

I also read through the B section. The video today shows that. I start and stop often, playing with different voices, harmonic structure, polyphony, and overall phrasing.

Total practice time thus far across Monday and Tuesday is just under an hour, with approx. 25-30 min sessions each day. Tomorrow will likely double that, as getting things from 70-90% tempo can be time consuming.
