not letting someone work in with you at the gym should be normalized
There are so many videos online where people say if you don’t let someone work in with you at a commercial gym you have no gym etiquette or you should work out at home if you don’t want to share but there are many valid reasons why someone might say no to letting you work in with them.
Some people might be in a time crunch and don’t know how long you’re going to rest in between sets for or if it’s a plate loaded machine how much weight you’re going to do. It also might make someone uncomfortable with you hovering around the machine or watching them when it’s not your turn.
There’s a lot of people who will let you work in but if someone doesn’t want you to it doesn’t make them a dick. It’s not like they are intentionally hogging the machine from you. Yes it might be inconvenient but as a paying member you’re not obligated to let someone work in with you if you don’t want to.
