2012-2013 is when pop culture arguably stagnated into its current form
-Superhero movies/MCU become ubiquitous with the release of The Avengers (still going on in 2023)
-Minimalism in tech design via Windows 8 and iOS 7 (still going on in 2023)
-Start of the current polarization (still going in 2023)
-Start of the disco revival with Bruno Mars, also Daft Punk and Pharrell's song Get Lucky (still going on in 2023 with Silk Sonic and Dua Lipa)
-Kpop becomes popular (Kpop is still popular in 2023)
-Vaporwave/synthwave become popular which leads to the "all nostalgia all the time" phase of our culture (still going on in 2023 with media like Stranger Things and Top Gun Maverick)
-Chief Keef popularizes drill/trap with the release of Sosa (trap is still the default style of music among young people in 2023, given its heavy use in TikTok/YouTube shorts)
-Smartphones outsell brick/flip phones (smartphones still popular in 2023)
-"EDM" starts to replace "Electropop" as the buzzword for popular electronic music (EDM still popular in 2023)
-Mayans predict the world ended (people joke "Maybe they were right" due to the culture stagnating after that)
-Vine released (which would pave the way for TikTok)

-Google integrates Google Plus with YouTube accounts which arguably made YouTube feel more corporate (watering-down of the site is still going on in 2023)
Pop culture has basically been giving us endless iterations of 2012-2013 since those years ended, just with a few tweaks. Now, perhaps it's one of the cases where decade culture doesn't line up exactly with the decades. Perhaps 2010s culture is 2013-2023 and we're in the last throes of it. But I also wouldn't be surprised if 2028 still had the same culture as 2013-2023 (trap music, sites where people film themselves, superhero movies, rehashes of older genres).
