Riley Newman Riley has been on a trip to Australia and New Zealand and I was lucky enough to get some time on court with him, and I have to say it was incredible! He is such a lovely guy, great energy on court, heaps of tips and notes on how to improve my game (solicited) and an absolute beast to play against. It was very interesting playing with him as I very rarely have a partner that can cover ground like I can, but the real fun was in playing opposite him. Spending an hour with some mates going hard at him, doing our best to isolate him and beat him; unsuccessfully to the surprise of no one! So cool to experience such a high level of pickleball, he really brought out the best play from us and we had some great rallies and even got a few beautiful winners past/into him. One of his post-session comments was about how much he enjoyed playing us because we were really trying to beat him, rather than isolating his partner. Apparently heaps of US players will pay to attend his clinics and then just never hit him the ball when they get to face him. We find this very odd as we were so excited to take him on directly. Anyway, just thought I'd share the positive experience I had with him. Definitely get on court with him if you ever get the opportunity :)
