Why do I wear long sleeves and pants in a tropical climate? Since my teens, I've have a weird and rare condition called Aquagenic Pruritus. It means "itch from water", but it's not an accurate name. Any change in temperature cause prickling sensations. Water on skin changes temperature, but so does shade, a breeze, humidity, a touch, a seat etc etc etc. A very minor change in temperature can set it off. Covering up with long sleeves and pants prevents temperature changes. There is no visible effect, which makes people doubt that it's real. Since it's rare, affected people can't find the name of the condition and often conclude that they are just going insane.

Here's a story that describes how it feels. I was wearing jeans and working on a car battery. The battery exploded and particles flew. I kept working on the issue but noticed a familiar sensation on my legs. I ignored it because I thought it was just the normal itching. A few minutes later I noticed that battery acid had burned holes in my jeans and was causing the prickling sensation on my skin.

Your new name is cool 😎

I also have a rare disease called idiopathic hypersomnia. Even if I had 10 hours sleep during the night, I will fall asleep again during the day, and there's no way to stop it, it's irresistible. Few seconds before I fall asleep during the day, I often feel something vibrating and moving in my brain, and then I sleep between 30 seconds and 5 minutes.

I tried to ask doctors, but they don't trust me, they think I'm just lazy. So I made researches on internet and that's how I found this name.

Because of it, I couldn't continue to work in the main city of my country, because we had a lot of meetings there, and I was ashamed each time I suddenly fall asleep in front of people. So I asked to be moved to secondary places without meetings.

My worst case of day sleeping was in front of the prime minister while he asked me a question. Imagine, you are in a closed room with the members of the government, you're talking and they're carefully listening to you... and you fall asleep before you finish 😂

I had to do my own research too! It sounds like that vibration is a decent early warning system, but it's great that you can do your work in more controlled environments.

About the name, one time I went to the horse racetrack and I saw there was a horse in the race called Prize Givings. I had to bet big! Then I lost it all 🤷‍♂️!

I can relate somewhat I have scars on my right hand on my knuckles. I got them from a car wreck years ago. I can get sharp pains around the scars with conditions being cold or hot. I can't put my right hand in hot water or walk to my car in the winter without gloves on. I get really sharp pains from that on my right hand.

Is the pain on the skin or underneath? I'm still waiting for a trick knee or some injury that lets me make absurd predictions about the weather that turn out to be true.

The only way I can describe it is it's like someone taking a razor blade across my knuckles while dunking my hand in alcohol at the same time. It is a burning pain. The same feeling either hot or cold. I would say it's a underneath and on the skin.
