How do I stabilize this railing? Hi DIYers, I need to install a baby gate at the top of some stairs and was going to use the ‘zip-tie a 2x4 to the post’ approach. The problem is this short railing seems wobbly (https://i.imgur.com/qzfn9zW.jpg) and I think the outward pressure of a baby gate will just make it worse.The couple of other posts I’ve seen on wobbly newel posts have them secured horizontally into a stair stringer, which wouldn’t work here. I can’t tell how the post is secured to the floor or the railing to the wall?(My first instinct was to mangle some support with 90-degree metal brackets, but surely there’s a less ugly way to stabilize this railing?)
