Feeling taken advantage of by husband’s buddy. Do I say something?
My husband has this friend. They’re close…went to college together and were then roommates (where I noticed the “unevenness” in their friendship but it wasn’t my place to get in the way then. Maybe it still isn’t).
Anyway, friend left our city and moved to NYC. He makes a ton of money as a lawyer there, graduated from a top law school and his parents bought his condo and car in cash for him so basically he’s not hurting for money. Meanwhile we’re fine/making middle class incomes but my husband does have ridiculously high, ongoing medical expenses through no fault of his own (type 1 diabetes) if that matters.
I feel this friend takes advantage though. For example - we stayed at his place when we went to NYC for a friend’s wedding. We handled all our own transportation, food and took him out for a nice meal as a thank you.
He’s stayed at our place twice. Eats our food, doesn’t take us out or offer anything. Fine. But he was in town for a wedding in the suburbs for one of the stays and borrowed our car, didn’t replace the gas he used and charged the tolls to our account. There was a cash option to pay tolls or he could have at least acknowledged using the pass and offered to leave cash. My husband doesn’t care at all but this bugs me.
Another time, after we had a baby, he said his parents wanted to send us a gift. Like his parents, really? How about you thinking to do something like that for our new baby after we’ve been letting you stay time and again? Sorry, this is a petty rant. Anyone have friends or family like this? #relationships source
